About Enchained (Quragnaye)
Until the early and mid-19th century in Ethiopia, institutional punitive prisons did not exist and the justice process was restorative. Enchained illustrates the rift between the old oral all-encompassing system, which includes not just legal process but also social life, culture and politics, and modus operandi of law and the current confusion of law and justice.
Enchained, director by Moges Tafesse, is a lush historical drama set in 1910, and was selected as the Opening Movie of the prestigious 2020 New African Film Festival in the United States. The Ethiopian production won Ethiopia’s 2019 Alem Cinema Award for Best Film; the Lezza Award 2019 for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, amongst others.
At a time when many people are spending more time indoors, habeshaview is proud to share exclusive and excellent Ethiopian entertainment to its audiences around the world. Tigist Kebede, habeshaview operations director, says: “habeshaview is committed to raising the profile of Ethiopian films. With Enchained we provide audiences around the world with quality movies that inspire.”
